Regain Control: Urinary Incontinence Seminars for Women at Hendersonville Medical CenterHENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (November 17, 2009) For women who experience sudden urine loss, they know it can happen when they laugh, sneeze or cough. Loss of self confidence, free time and even a good night sleep are just a few of the problems caused by urinary control problems. Bladder control issues are prevalent in every segment of the population, although many causes are age-related. Millions of women suffer from urinary incontinence issues without realizing many treatments exist, ranging from medication to surgery. Urinary incontinence almost always results from an underlying treatable medical condition, said Dr. Brandon Riggan, OB/GYN on staff at Hendersonville Medical Center. The unfortunate part is that many women think its just something they have to live with. Two main types of urinary incontinence exist in females: stress incontinence, which is caused by weak muscles in the pelvic floor area; and urge incontinence, where the urge to urinate occurs suddenly and is typically caused by involuntary muscle contractions. The good news is urinary incontinence is very treatable, agreed Dr. David Morris, Urologist on staff at Hendersonville Medical Center. Treatments vary, but physicians generally like to try as many treatment options as possible before recommending surgery. Dr. Brandon Riggan and Dr. David Morris will host free educational seminars discussing the causes and treatment methods of urinary incontinence in women. These are scheduled for December 2 and December 8. Call TriStar MedLine at 615-342-1919 for dates, times and reservations.
